Desenhos infantis scarf
The house I stayed in during my residency in Arraiolos once held another life — it had, at one time in its history, been a village school. The ‘pink’ room beside my bedroom was once the classroom, and while exploring the house’s archive I discovered a collection of children’s drawing exercises from the 1930s.
Each child had been asked to draw something they loved. Delicate sketches of flowers, boats, fish, cherries, and rabbits emerged from the pages — simple yet profound glimpses of the world that surrounded them in the village.
For this scarf design, I carefully redrew and recoloured these fragments, bringing them together into a single composition where they dance playfully across the silk. Desenhos infantis is both a tribute to the joy of childhood creativity and a way of honouring the stories embedded in the house.
